Dr Joy Varghese

Dr. Joy Varghese is a highly respected Senior Consultant in Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology at Baby Memorial Hospital, Calicut. Recognised as one of the senior-most transplant hepatologists in India, he brings more than a decade of experience in managing complex liver diseases and liver transplantation.

He has successfully performed over 1,500 liver transplantations and played a vital role in establishing liver transplant programs across Tamil Nadu and Kerala, both in government and private healthcare sectors. He was the first in India to initiate therapeutic plasma exchange in liver diseases and to perform hepatitis B virus-related liver transplantation using hyperimmune plasma.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Joy is a passionate academician with more than 100 scientific publications, four book chapters, and over 1,000 invited lectures delivered nationally and internationally. His leadership and commitment have made a significant impact on the advancement of hepatology and liver transplantation in India.
