Overview

The Cardiac Anaesthesia department at Baby Memorial Hospital  plays a critical role in the perioperative care of patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries. Our team comprises expert cardiac anaesthesiologists trained in managing high-risk patients and complex procedures with precision and safety. They are involved from preoperative evaluation through intraoperative monitoring to post-operative care in the Cardiothoracic ICU.

We specialise in anaesthesia for procedures such as beating heart bypass surgery, valve repairs, congenital heart disease correction, and vascular surgeries. Our team is proficient in managing patients undergoing awake cardiac surgery, where selected individuals undergo surgery while conscious, avoiding general anaesthesia entirely. This is particularly beneficial for elderly patients or those with compromised lung function.

Advanced technologies such as intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), cardiac output monitoring, and goal-directed fluid therapy are routinely used to maintain optimal function during surgery. Pain control protocols and early recovery practices are tailored to minimise complications and speed up recovery.

The department works in close coordination with the CTVS, cardiology, and critical care teams to deliver seamless outcomes. With a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and patient-centred care, the Cardiac Anaesthesia unit ensures high standards of anaesthetic care for every cardiac surgical patient at Baby Memorial Hospital.
