Septoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct a deviated nasal septum - the wall that divides the nose into two nostrils. When the septum is bent or crooked, it can cause breathing difficulties, nasal blockage, snoring, sinus infections, or nosebleeds. Septoplasty straightens the septum, improving airflow and nasal function.

What is septoplasty?

Septoplasty is a surgery to correct the alignment of the nasal septum by removing or repositioning the cartilage and bone that block the nasal passage. It is often performed under local or general anesthesia.

When is septoplasty needed?

It is recommended when a deviated septum causes:

  • Chronic nasal congestion or blockage
  • Difficulty breathing through the nose
  • Recurrent sinus infections
  • Nosebleeds
  • Snoring or sleep disturbances
Is septoplasty safe?

Yes. Septoplasty is a safe and effective procedure performed by ENT specialists. Complications are rare and may include minor bleeding, infection, or temporary nasal swelling.

How is septoplasty performed?
  • The surgeon makes an incision inside the nose (no visible scars)
  • Deviated portions of bone and cartilage are straightened or removed
  • The septum is repositioned and supported with soft splints if needed
  • The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes.
What is recovery like after septoplasty?
  • Most patients go home the same day or the next
  • Mild swelling, congestion, or bloody discharge for a few days
  • Avoid strenuous activity, nose blowing, and sneezing through the nose for 1–2 weeks
  • Full recovery usually within 2–3 weeks, with significant improvement in breathing
Will septoplasty change the shape of my nose?

No. Septoplasty is done inside the nose and does not change the external appearance. However, if cosmetic reshaping is desired, it can be combined with rhinoplasty (called septorhinoplasty).

What are the benefits of septoplasty?
  • Better nasal breathing
  • Reduced sinus infections
  • Fewer nosebleeds and headaches
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Enhanced overall comfort and energy
