BMH Kannur Launches North Malabar’s First Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Medicine Department

Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH), Kannur, has inaugurated North Malabar’s first dedicated Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Department, providing round-the-clock emergency care for children. The department brings together specialised services including Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Pediatric Nephrology, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatric Airway Management and Pediatric Interventional Airway Services to support the emergency care needs of children under one roof.

Alongside the department's inauguration, BMH Kannur launched ‘Kutti Doctor’, a school-based healthcare initiative designed to equip students with essential first-aid and emergency response skills. In collaboration with schools across Kannur district, the programme will train two Student Police Cadet (SPC) members from each participating school in scientific first aid, basic life support and emergency response procedures.

The dual initiative reflects BMH Kannur’s commitment to strengthening specialised paediatric emergency care while promoting emergency preparedness and safety awareness among school students. The inauguration was attended by hospital leadership, medical professionals and child health and CPR awareness advocates.
