Events & Updates | Brain Stem Death Determination and Organ Donation Scientific Session at Baby Memorial Hospital Kozhikode

Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH), Kozhikode, in association with Meitra Hospital and K-SOTTO, organised a scientific session on “Brain Stem Death Determination & Organ Donation” 

The programme focused on strengthening healthcare professionals’ understanding of brain stem death determination, organ donation, and deceased donor organ transplantation. The session addressed the legal, ethical and clinical aspects of brain death certification and highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary teamwork in facilitating organ donation and saving lives through transplantation.

The scientific session featured distinguished experts from the fields of critical care, emergency medicine, nephrology, paediatric intensive care and organ donation. Key topics included the current scenario of brain death certification and organ donation in Kerala, apnoea testing, the role of nurses in organ donation, and best practices in deceased donor organ transplantation.

The programme also featured a panel discussion by experts in deceased donor organ transplantation, focusing on the challenges, opportunities and best practices involved in strengthening organ donation and transplantation.
